that’s what friends are for

I have a fantastical blogless friend named Dana.  She knows my love of all things crafty (such an enabler that girl is).  So when she sent me this link, I couldn't help myself.

I've been trying to think of more ways to incorporate the letter H (my new last name initial) into crafty things. Granted, pillows with initials on them is not a new idea but hmmm, what if there was a font I really loved and wanted to make into a chart without much fuss??

Thus we have the Easy peasy way to make fun decorative Initial Pillows (or sweaters, or blankets, or ..)!

You do need to have some sort of photo editing program like Photoshop or Serif Photo Plus.

Step One: Go to  Proceed to drool over all the really beautiful and creative fonts there.  After downloading about 5 for yourself, pick one that you like for your pillow.  Should be thicker so that the intarsia isn't too much of a pain. (but hey I won't stop you! ;-))  I chose Leaf!

Step Two: Download and install font to your computer.  Open your photo editing software and open a new blank document.  I just put one large H in the middle of my box.  Crop around your letter and save as a JPEG.

Step Three: Go to and upload your Letter jpeg to their KnitPro.  Also notice while you're there what cool girls they are spreading awareness about sweatshops and the companies who abuse them. (Right on!)

Step Four: Save PDF to your computer, print out and begin to knit to your hearts content.

Here's what mine looks like.

Step Five: Realize, why stop at just one letter when you can probably write out a whole beautiful pillow in a poem or love letter in that gorgeous font and knit the whole thing up?  That's where you're me and just CRAZY. Hee!

Of course I'm piled under a ton of boxes at the moment and haven't even begun to cast on for such a wonderful idea, but I thought I'd share the wealth!

Thanks Dana!
