Large popcorn, half butter half salt*

Thank you for all your comments on Sadie! I have worn it about 3 times already.. Yes I can tell already it’s going to be quite the worn in knit this spring.  I’m working on my "from scratch" top at the moment, having already frogged it once and re-started.  It’s going to be a labor of love.  I’m still trying to get my head around set in sleeves and why you need to decrease when your supposed to decrease but there’s still time before I get to that part …in the meantime – I saw this over at JenLa’s (and other blogs) and couldn’t resist joining in the game!  I mean I did grow up in front of HBO.

Here are the deets:
1. Pick 10 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDB and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them on your blog for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. Looking them up is cheating, please don’t. And if you do, I’ll call you a big old cheating cheater!

*Bonus to who can name the movie from the post title! – Nonnahs and Courtney, you got it!! Best In Show is right!

ETA: You people RULE!  Hope you enjoyed the game – I tried to make sure everyone who guessed right was listed by the movie… I really enjoyed everyone’s guesses and you were all Spot On!  Perhaps I’ll make it a little harder next time 😉 Oh and I’m tagging you all to do this!

Until next time, "Be Excellent To Each Other"!

it makes my week

Walking home at 12 am through Hoboken can make one realize an important fact.  My life doesn’t suck.  I was sauntering home after a lovely dinner and one last drink.  Bars were overflowing with people, lines outside forming and I just making my way home to my comfortable bed.  Drunken people stumblng and girls crying about how the next day they were going to be made fun of kept me amused with every step.  This really brings me to nothing in particular but I thought you would like to know what my walk home on Saturday night was like 😉

Today I’m in a much more grateful state of mind and am totally humbled by those who have tossed the "You Make My Day" nod my way! Lola and Ava, Julie, Lise and Jillian thanks So Much!  It’s always good to feel appreciated!!  I know there are a ton of blogs I read that also make my day – so I return the favor to you all as well as other people who make my day in blog land and real life!

Patricia, my personal yarn pusher. You always make me smile and have been such a great friend.  Nothing makes my day than popping over and knitting with you! oh and there’s Riley too!

Nonnahs! I love everything you make and feel so inspired by what you create and how thoughtful you are 🙂 You rock.

Stacey, you know, I don’t know what makes my day more… your knits or your dog. haha!

Lolly!   You are the Queen of inspiration 🙂  where would we be without Project Spectrum or Socktoberfest?

Cara who I’d like to call the "Godmother" of the blogs.  I have ready so many stories of how it was her January One that made others want to join in and start bloggin’ – as it is the case here, too!

Tiennie, who makes some really beautiful knits and sweaters hotter than Tom Welling. 😉

Denise! When she’s not golfing or doing all the other fabulous things she does – she’s an excellent and quite inspiring knitter.

Kate who hasdesigned some really gorgeous sweaters and I love seeing what she’ll do next!

Grumperina – thanks for always breaking the knits down as well as always having something beautiful on your needles always – hope you are enjoying your Married Bliss!

Parikha, besides the goregeous knitting and photography – you’re in my next favorite area code…

I seriously could go on and on and on… but I must get back to work! I have the busiest week of my admissions year ahead of me so I will be looking to you all to get me through it!  That and mitt number 2 of the Endpapers!!

Knit of 07

07 will certainly go down as the year of the knits (especially sweaters, there were 8!) here at Che Ten ten.  I was never found without needles every season of the year.  I became more confident with my knitting and really tackled a few pieces that before this year I may not have thought would be possible.  I have made such great friends via this blog and am excited to see what 08 will bring!  If you want to see more of my finished knits of 07 check out the flickery set.  I am following Lolly’s lead and doing KnitLit’s Best of 07!

1. your best FO of the year

Such a tough call on this one… in terms of fan favorites I would say Cherry is the one. I truly admire Anna Bell and was so excited to knit this cardigan.  Cherry was made with Elan Sonata which was a surprising yarn to knit
with.  It worked up nicely and has worn better than expected. This is a staple in my wardrobe rotation.

Tangled Yoke

However, my personal favorite and what I wear more than others is the Tangled Yoke. I loved the design and am always loving everything Eunny Hang does! I think of making Autumn Rose daily!  The TY was a meditative knit with lots of stockinette simple shaping and one kick ass cabled yoke!  Don’t ask me if I’ve actually sewed buttons on that cardigan… i mean this is a Knitting Blog 😉 I do have some beautiful ones picked so I promise I won’t delay much longer on that!

2. best FO of the year made by a blog you link to

Again another toughy… but I must say I totally connected with Nonnahs this year and loved her Fifi which made me immediately cast on for one.  After that we just began writing each other finding that we have such similar tastes and convinced that somehow we were separated at birth 😉   And let’s not even discuss Ravelry – I’ve seen such great inspiring work from Isel, Lingy, Lolly, Kirsten, and so many more!  I am constantly bookmarking and favoring knits everyday.

3. best yarn you tried

I fell in love with Malabrigo this year.  It’s just got such a soft, marshmallow-y feeling that I couldn’t help making two Koolhaas hats and two Shifting Sands scarves with it’s goodness.  I plan on owning more in the new year! haha 🙂

4. best new book/mag/pattern of 2007

There were so many patterns I could name here.  I am always impressed with Interweave Knits and have always had at least one pattern I have wanted to make from every issue.  I also love the classic designs of the Zephyr Girls!  I’ve made Glee and Rusted Root so far and am looking forward to making another one of their sweaters soon!

5. best new knitting technique or gadget you tried in 2007

I learned how to cable without a cable needle at the beginning of this year which perhaps is the most freeing knitting technique out there!  I also learned how to knit Continental despite loving my original English (throwing) way but noticed a definite increase in my knitting speed.

6. top 5 inspirations–what five things inspired you the most over the past year?

I think overall just seeing what people have done and created has offered me inspiration.  Reading stories of triumphs over frogging or taking that jump and cutting that steek makes me realize that we’re all in this knitty obsession together!   I am constantly seeing things and reading posts that make me want to constantly better my writing and photography and for that challenge I say Thank You.

7. designer who most amazed & inspired you throughout the year

I love everything that Anna Bell creates and am always impressed with what Eunny Jang creates.  As of late, Jared Flood, aka Brooklyntweed has been popping up all over the place with some very classic and pretty designs.

8. knitting resolutions for 2008–what’s next for you and your blog?

A ton of knitting, I hope 😉  I really hope to continue make some more beautiful pieces as well as experimenting with my own designs. I am also looking forward to doing some more stranded work this year.  I dabbled a bit with a mitten but haven’t really jumped into Fair Isle.  There are some beautiful patterns out there that are stealing my attention and I think it’s about time I casted on…

This blog has continually challenged me to be creative and to recognize a desire within me to do something more.  I look forward to finding out what that "more" is in the coming year!

Thank you to all those who read and take the time to come by Tentenknits!!  You more than anything really push me to do what I love to do!

Jenn tagged me a few posts ago!  8 random things… I think I’ve done this before but that was 7 random things then – this is 8 random things now.

Velvet Koolhaas

1. I love to play blackjack.  Actually, my boyfriend and I took a little trip to AC Halloween night.  We both had off on Nov. 1st and did an over night there.  We played for a few hours and came home with more than we left with. I heart mid-week vacations! It’s also possible that in my last 7 Things I mentioned this and how I spent an exorbitant amount of time at the tables in Vegas.  I did however come home a winner this time and am now contemplating more yarn to buy 😉

2. Before knitting I loved doing other crafty things.  I made necklaces with beads and buttons.  I loved making friendship bracelets and probably have more scrap-booking supplies that I know what to do with.  I even bought glycerin to make my own soap.  Knitting has since taken over those other loves but I’m sure they’ll poke their crafty goodness in here some day.

3. I’ve recently been very monogamous with the cereal I eat in the morning.  Right now it’s Vanilla Almond Peace Cereal – i love it.  Now only it is pretty good for me (sorry Frosted Flakes!) and organic it raises money for different organizations and events that promote peace in the world.

Velvet Koolhaas

4. I only drink iced coffee.  Yes even in the dead of winter you can see me rolling up to the closest D&D and asking for a Medium Iced Coffee with skim and splenda.  I always manage to burn my tongue on hot drinks and therefore figured if it’s 98 degrees on the inside ice coffee is fine all year round.

5. I collect wine corks.  I’ve been collecting them ever since I saw a huge wine cork board at a restaurant I went to a few years ago.  Have I made said cork board yet?  Well no, but I have enjoyed many a great bottle of wine 😉

6. Just found out that i love the Complete Spiniach Salad at Trader Joes.  Me, the girl who never eats salads and always opts for Chicken Fingers and french fries.  It has cranberries, blue cheese and almonds. YUM!! I may grab a few bags on my way home from work tomorrow.

7.  I pretty much wear the same makeup everyday.  I love stila.  I wear their lip gloss and shadows all the time and although I may go crazy at their kisosk at Sephora I end up putting on the same shadow and eye liner to work everyday.  I want to be more creative in that area but find that I’d rather be knitting ;-).

8. I love making hats but rarely wear them!  It just turns out that either I forget them at home or give them away.  I also feel I have a weird shaped head and they always seem to ride up and look funny.  However meet Koolhaas.  I LOVE this hat and have already casted on for another.  The yarn of course is Malabrigo in Velvet Grapes.  Velvety it is.  This took up a little less than a ball and there just might be enough left over to make a Calormetry for those big curly head days.

Velvet Koolhaas

I hope to be posting more this week as work has gone back to normalcy (for now!).  Hope everyone has a great Monday!

7 lil chipmunks twirling on a branch

just a little play time before we begin:

Hitchhiker: You heard of this thing, the 8-Minute Abs?
Ted: Yeah, sure, 8-Minute Abs. Yeah, the excercise video.
Hitchhiker: Yeah, this is going to blow that right out of the water. Listen to this: 7… Minute… Abs.
Ted: Right. Yes. OK, all right. I see where you’re going.
Hitchhiker: Think about it. You walk into a video store, you see 8-Minute Abs sittin’ there, there’s 7-Minute Abs right beside it. Which one are you gonna pick, man?
Ted: I would go for the 7.
Hitchhiker: Bingo, man, bingo. 7-Minute Abs. And we guarantee just as good a workout as the 8-minute folk.
Ted: You guarantee it? That’s – how do you do that?
Hitchhiker: If you’re not happy with the first 7 minutes, we’re gonna send you the extra minute free. You see? That’s it. That’s our motto. That’s where we’re comin’ from. That’s from "A" to "B".
Ted: That’s right. That’s – that’s good. That’s good. Unless, of course, somebody comes up with 6-Minute Abs. Then you’re in trouble, huh?
[Hitchhiker convulses]
Hitchhiker: No! No, no, not 6! I said 7. Nobody’s comin’ up with 6. Who works out in 6 minutes? You won’t even get your heart goin, not even a mouse on a wheel.
Ted: That – good point.
Hitchhiker: 7’s the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 doors. 7, man, that’s the number. 7 chipmunks twirlin’ on a branch, eatin’ lots of sunflowers on my uncle’s ranch. You know that old children’s tale from the sea. It’s like you’re dreamin’ about Gorgonzola cheese when it’s clearly Brie time, baby. Step into my office.
Ted: Why?
Hitchhiker: ‘Cause you’re fuckin’ fired!

So I’ve been tagged by Suzeq with the 7 things meme and judging from my bloglines this meme is spreading as fast as Mono in High School.  I’ve definitely done this before but what’s another 7 weird or (is it random?) things about me.

1.  I have this talent (or perhaps a curse) to turn pretty much anything I hear into a song.  Not an original song by any means but one of the songs that has been databased in my head – which happen to be many!  I do it a lot with names ("Sweet Melissa" or "I see my Marianne walking away" – points to those who know the songs I’m quoting!) and almost always with phrases.  I constantly hear, "do you honestly hvae a song for everything!?"

Everything is everything. The more I talk about it, the less I do control.
– Phonix (6 Feet Under Soundtrack, Vol. 2)….

So Yes, I do.

2. I have this kinship with Julia Louis Dryfus.  Not only have I been called "Elaine" on many occasions, all starting in college, BUT she has played the character Margo from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.  A quote that almost right after I meet someone (usually drunk) they like to say.  Usually it follows any question I might ask and their reply is always, "I don’t KNOW, Margo!"

3. I have walked into street signs and gotten my hair caught in a vaccum.  I do not shy away from having seriously comedic embarrasing moments.  I’m just That Girl.

4. I love superheros.  It probably started when I was younger and read any of my brother’s vast collection of comic books.  His favorites were Batman and the Wolverine.  I of course loved them all and often pretended to be an Xmen (remember my X themed meme?).  I watched Season 1 of Smallville religiously (now I just can’t bare to watch… Lana married to Lex, whaaa!?). I went to the opening of Spiderman and I now watch the show Heros (very much like Xmen don’t you think – the humans vs. mutants).  I always wish I had a super power, of course flying is nice as well as having superhuman strength or a fantastic and powerful laso, but the one power I wish I had was the ablity to stop time.  This probably explains my affinity to Hiro and Evie.

5.  My favorite drink is a Gin and Tonic with lime. Although nowadays I find myself drinking a lot of red wine, preferable Cab Sav. (You also know my feelings about Veuve)

6.  I am the admissions director for my old high school – a fact that I’m sure I’ve shared on older occasions but one that always has and always will remain such a random career choice for me.  I never in my life thought I would be here doing what I do.  Then again I didn’t really want to be a doctor or a laywer either.  It just solidfies my faith in karma, the holy spirit, Buddah, fate, destiny or whatever you’d like to call that which may lead us.

7. My boyfriend and I will be celebrating our nine year anniversary this June. Yes that’s right, "nine".  I like to say it with the voice of Principal Rooney when he explains to Mrs. Bueller that Feris indeed has been absent, "Nineee Times".   Has it really been that long?

I just love HBO.

It’s been said (by whom, I’d like to know!) that allegedly if you’ve seen over 85 movies you have no life. Mark the ones you’ve seen. There are 239 films on this list. Copy this list, go to your own blog, paste it in and put x’s by the ones that you have seen. Add them up, change the header adding your number, and post it.

In my defense I didn’t know how to knit when I was younger.  Also, 85 lifetime movies watched? There’s got to be another catch for this – like 85 movies watched in a week? or a month?  As a kid my bro and I were always watching movies.  I found it better than sitting and watching TV shows.  Something about a full feature film rather than a 30 min show… Also, this list seemed to randomly select movies from various genres but gosh imagine how many More movies I’ve seen that weren’t listed… hmm I curious to see how Cinemaknits does 😉

diez equiz

ahh Cara, how I love thee.  After reading her meme that was to list 10 things beginning with a letter that was assigned to her, I thought, "Hey this might be fun!"… well I should have known better because of COURSE Cara would give me X.  So here we gaux!

X – The most underappreciated letter of the alphabet and perhaps the easiest to write after the letter L.  Also stands for the roman numeral 10 which is close to my heart considering I was born on 10/10 or (X/X for those playing along).  I also am extremely proud of the spelling of my name which ends in X.  People always confuse it for an S or Z.. honestly who’s name is Margaus or Margauz?

xoxo – Who doesn’t love hugs and kisses? I am a truly affectionate and caring person.  I LOVE hugs.  I love giving them and I love recieving them.  There truly is nothing better to brighten my day than a Huge Meaningful HUG.  I hate hugs that are halvies (like one arm) and I so dislike people who recieve my hugs with limp arms. It’s like I’m hugging a tree.  As for kisses well… french kisses, eskimo kisses, butterfly kisses, Hershey Kisses… i do not discriminate!

xerofulogitis – which literally means "lost for words".  As much as most people may think I’m a huge talker, there are many many moments when I feel like I just don’t know what to say.  I consider myself a pretty good listener (except when I zone out watching movies or my fav TV shows) but I really do take to heart people’s feelings and opinions.  I don’t however easily offer my own. Sometimes it’s because I can’t really work out the problem alone either… I get stumped.  I find that I have friends who are excellent and giving advice and I envy their ease at seeming to know the right answer…

xyz – I am SO that type of person to tell That Guy his zipper is open or That Poor Lady she has spiniach in her teeth.  Why on earth would you let someone walk around with things like that?  Often I’m fixing labels that are sticking out or letting someone know that there’s toliet paper stuck to their shoes.I for one am a LOVER of poppy seed bagels and it’s always a search party for each poppy that makes it way into my teeth.  I am always appreciative of any kind soul that gives me a hand.

x-men – My brother always had comics hanging around when he was younger and one of his favorites was Wolverine from the X-men.  Natrually I always found them laying around and in an effort to be just like him I would read them, too.  I love the Xmen.  Both comics and the movies are so cool to me.  The idea that someday our DNA will evolvoe to produce humans that may have special powers is so intriguing to me (probably also why i love the show Heroes so much).  Often times I wish I had a super power… mostly to stop time so that I can knit, sleep, or snuggle for as long as I want.

xxx – oh wouldn’t you like to know 😉

x-factor – I defintely believe that there is a unknown variable that is at work in our lives.  Call it God, Allah, Jesus or Karma or whatever you’d like.  There’s always something out there that you cannot predict or cannot control (we all hate it and love it at the same time).  It’s what makes life beautiful and devistating and why we fight so hard for it.

x almost never marks the spot – Indiana Jones once said that in his archeology classes and yet  he always followed that in his quests for the Ark, Sacred Stones or the Holy Grail.  But I think that what happened to him along the way was always his bigger adventure.  It is that way I see my life.  Often times you have this goal and you strive hard to reach that goal.  But really it’s all the things that happen in reaching the X that make up the best moments and soon X isn’t really where you thought it would be.

Xiphias – My parents would tell me that when I was a baby they would always find me staring at the sky while they were driving me places, especially at night.  A xiphias is a swordshaped comet (or a school of swordfish).  I love the stars.  Just look at them makes me feel so small and yet so in awe of how huge our universe is.  There’s no way we’re the only one’s here … which leads me to

X-Files – i hate ghost or alien stories but when you’re from New Jersey they’re everywhere.  We even have a magazine that prides itself on finding the weridest most undescribable eeire places and stories.  Gives me the shivers just thinking about it.  Oh and… What ever happened to David Duchovney?  That’s probably filed in a x-file itself.

Phew… can’t believe I could do it without cheating with an "ex" word!  X-cellent!  Want a letter? I’ll be kind 😉 promise.  X my heart!
